For the hereafter introduced project I'm looking for companions that can identify with the idea and philosophy behind it, and who have both the interest and the time (and the needed skills) to bring it about together with me.
"Why don't you just do it yourself?", one might ask now. The reason for that is, that in several fields I'm missing the needed specialised knowledge and it would take too long for me, to learn it the autodidactic way.
So in the following I not only introduce the idea (ideas are a dime a dozen <gg>), but a somewhat worked out basic concept, which shows the potential and the goals of the idea and also goes a bit to the technical solutions.
The (basic) idea to Geomnesia came to me around late 2003/early 2004, when I saw a broadcast on arte about a japanese (?) painter, who artistically alienated city maps. I wondered then, how a city map of Hamburg might look, if one would lay a foil onto it, on which spots - to which different people have relations to - are connected with lines. And that that would probably bring up interesting patterns, from which one could see (among other things) where in Hamburg "things are going on".
Not long after that I bumped into www.map24.de and was amazed and pleased about their street map visualization via java-plugin, because something like that would be the perfect basis for Geomnesia. Back then I started looking for people in my circle of friends, with which one could built a "test-version" of Geomnesia. At that time I worked out this concept. Unfortunately my search remained unlucky (just got kids, too complicated, no time, etc.). As then in february 2005 google started "maps.google.com" for USA, I was kind of shocked, because they had some elements of Geomnesia in it. I feared now, that the ideas of Geomnesia would sooner or later pop up commercialized (cue: ring-tones and similiar nastinesses) on the web, and that that would diminish the use for community or let it disappear completely.
Because I didn't find somebody in my circle of friends and acquaintances, who is able to bring this project about together with me, I'm now looking for companions this way.
Maybe that's a mistake, but the idea seems too important to me, as that I want to see it commercialized beyond recognition in a few years. Either this speeds that process up or I put somehow a stop to it with this description of the concept. Or it just changes nothing <gg>.
This way to the concept of Geomnesia >>
